This was an amazing read. Very humorous of a stereotyped Chicago Italian family. It is a family filled with law enforcement members, a couple of daughters, one of which owns her own private investigative agency. This book features Caterina (Cat) Deluca.Cat owns the "Pants on Fire Detective Agency" that specializes on getting the goods on cheating, naughty spouses. Cat was inspired by her ex...a cheating spouse. While she is on surveillance, she follows a suspect to an abandoned building. Expecting a wandering woman, what she gets instead is knocked out by the blast of a bomb, that the local cops are calling a 'gas leak.' They also say her suspect was killed, but, she talked to him? What is going on?
Cat must follow the trail and figure out what truly happened. Despite her family's insistence that she is mentally unstable (the concussion,) and should be a police dispatcher, Cat soldiers on with a cast right out of "Guys and Dolls."*
Twists and turns and varying plots and scenarios fly through this hilarious romp of a mystery. The ending is a wonderful conclusion including funerals that truly touch your heart.
I really loved this book and will joyfully read the next book in the series. Give yourself a treat is you enjoy comedy and a good mystery or dozen.
* Guys and Dolls is a famous Broadway Musical (and Movie) featuring the lives of NYC gangsters and their loves. It is a romance with comedy and fabulous music.

Cat DeLuca is a fully realized, funny, likable protagonist. She's so real I feel like I could drive downtown and meet her. The story is a fun ride, and the book's a page turner - I read it in just a few days (pretty fast for me).
While she isn't Stephanie Plum, she will certainly do! It's obvious that the Evanovich formula is at work here (thus the 4 stars), but Cat DeLuca can hold her own. The plot was pretty decent, the food, family, and fashion details are fun, so I will be looking for more by this author. This isn't the world's greatest literature, but it was a good way to pass a Sunday afternoon.
This is a well written and fun read! I highly recommend it!
Pretty much happened on this by chance and thought I'd try it. Kept my attention and would recommend it to those who enjoy an heroine who is strong and gets the job done with great big Italian family and connections.
K.J. Larsen's new series, Liar Liar (Cat DeLuca Mysteries), was a blast to read. From the intrepidly courageous and seriously fearless heroine, to a family that gives "dysfunctional" new meaning, to mega sexy hunks, to situations that both keep you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of Cat's next feat of daring to a really sound mystery that draws you in and doesn't let go...this book rocked my socks off!!! Highly recommended to those that love a laugh with their whodunit....and I am totally anticipating the next in this series..hopefully sooner than later. Bravo to the author for a wonderful book.
I really, really loved the premise of this book and it reminds me a lot of Janet Evanovich when she was good.
The editing on this book was tragic. I'm not a grammar nazi by any means, but there were a bunch of glaringly obvious mistakes throughout the book. My favorite was early on in the book when the main character "flipped a Uey". Towards the ends she, "flipped a Uwee." uhhuh.
Not that my opinion matters much, but must we tread over the same ground as Evanovich with the whole idea that this woman is so incredibly sexy and desirable that she has two hot men lusting after her? It's old in the 16 Evanovich novels and it was old before this novel came to an end. A love interest is awesome, flipping back and forth between two is over.
I loved the characters, I loved the plot, I laughed a lot. Please don't do a retread of Evanovich. Please. (and the Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers is a cute touch, but you're driving that into the ground too)
I gave it four stars for effort and because it did make me smile a few times. As a female private investigator, I enjoy this stuff. It also tells me why my clients call me at 2 AM trying to get help committing crimes. I never understood that before I started reading this genre. Overall, it's a cookie cutter story and unremarkable characters, but they're not offensive or over the top either. I see reviews saying they get better, so I'm willing to give it a few more shots to find out.
